A vibrant exploration of marine life, captured through the intricate layering of three-dimensional paper strips.
Inspired by the mysterious and fluid beauty of the Great Barrier Reef, this artwork is a celebration of the ocean’s hidden architecture. Barriere Coralline is not a mere depiction of coral; it is a meticulous recreation of underwater vitality, where every curve and color is designed to mimic the rhythmic pulse of the deep sea.
The Art of the Paper Strip
In this piece, I have utilized the inherent tension and flexibility of paper to build a complex, high-relief topography. By hand-manipulating thousands of colorful paper strips and placing them on-edge, I’ve created a work that transforms a flat surface into a living, breathing ecosystem.
- Dynamic Textures: The varying widths and placements of the paper strips recreate the delicate, organic structures of coral, fans, and sea flora.
- A Symphony of Color: The vibrant palette is carefully chosen to represent the staggering biodiversity of the reef, set against an atmospheric watercolor background that evokes the shifting light of the abyss.
- Architectural Precision: Every element is a solo endeavor, built layer by layer to ensure that the final composition possesses an undeniable sense of depth and movement.

Care & Longevity
- Shadow Box Sanctuary: To preserve the intricate verticality of the paper strips, the artwork is housed in a deep shadow box frame, keeping it pristine and dust-free.
- Vibrancy Care: To maintain the brilliant hues of the reef, avoid hanging the piece in areas with direct, continuous sunlight.
- Directional Lighting: I highly recommend displaying this piece under overhead or directional spotlights. As the light hits the edges of the paper strips, it creates a shifting play of shadows that brings the entire reef to life.
"Where the stillness of paper meets the eternal flow of the ocean."
